George Harrison, John Lennon, and a barely visible Pete Best onstage at Peter Eckhorn's Top Ten Club in 1961.Well, after examining a few more CDs and another book or two, I'm able to add the following ballads and showtunes to the list I began the other day. Keep in mind, this is speculative, but the following are tunes the Beatles might very well have played onstage in Hamburg or Liverpool at some point during their formative years, 1960-62. Here you go:
*September Song
*Summertime
*Sure to Fall
*To Know Her Is to Love Her
*Beautiful Dreamer
*Devil in Her Heart
*I Forgot to Remember to Forget
*You've really Got a Hold on Me
*Fever
There you have it. An interesting group of songs, ranging from old showtunes and girl groups of the early 60s, to smoldering R&B numbers and twangy country & western songs. So, now all The Indras Must do is pick five or six of from this post and the last one to learn and add to our growing setlist. I'm partial to the more interesting and obscure material myself, but undoubtedly there will be the usual argument for the more widely recognized and remembered songs on the list. Maybe we could do a block of three such slow songs per set and sandwich one lesser known tune between two more popular numbers? Hey, now there's an idea!
